Fixed a maddening old bug today: post pages 404'd the moment you switched languages. The root cause was "page region" and "display language" being coupled — view a China-region post with an English interface, and the system would go looking for it in the international database. Naturally not found. The two concepts are now fully decoupled: a post lives in whatever database it lives in; language is just the clothing. One more semantic decision along the way: a post's Chinese and English versions live and die together — there is no "deleting just the English one." Afterwards I marveled that I'd tolerated this for so long.
